Marble http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00022.html#0005285 August 19, 2015, 10:06 pm Source: N C Archives Written: 1846 #4275 – CROOM ET AL vs WRIGHT June 1846 Wayne County – in Equity Thomas Coor was one the defs as well as John Wright Bill of Complaint of Charles Croom, guardian and trustee for Nancy Coor, and Nancy Coor by her next friend Charles Croom and of Avy, Charles, Thomas, Harriet, Nancy and Sally Coor of the County of Madison, Tenn, and Nancy Coor of the same place on behalf of her next friend Charles Croom – Charles Croom late of Wayne Co had a Will about 184--- and among other bequests to his 5 sons and daughters now in the western counties viz Charles Croom, Isaac Croom, Nancy Coor, Sarah Cook and Jemima Hollowell he left 15 Negroes viz Will, Bryan, Levy, Henry, Isham, Ennis, Hardy, Binchy, Phelie, Candis, Hannah, Polly, Lucy, Polly, Eliza – the heirs to receive after sd Charles’ death and that of his wife – the heirs either to divide or sell the sd Negroes and then divide the money – Charles appointed his son Charles Croom as guardian to his daughter Nancy Coor and the legacy was left to her free and clear of her present husband Thomas Coor’s debts – then to her 6 children Charles, Thomas, Any, Harriet, Nancy and Sally Stringer Croom was to be the sole executor of the Will – sd Stringer took possession of the estate which was more than sufficient to pay all the debts – Temperance Croom was the wife of Charles Croom dec and she is now deceased – on 19 Feb. 1844 the slaves were divided by Gabriel Sherard, Williams Sherard and Redin Coley – Bryan, Polly and Jane were allotted to Nancy Coor and given to Aaron Tyson previously appointed by Charles Croom as “guardian” of sd Nancy – while the slaves were in possession of sd Tyson they were seized by Calvin Coor High Sheriff of Wayne Co under virtue of certain attachment against Thomas Coor the husband of sd Nancy in favor of the complaint of John Wright – sd John Wright sold the slaves at public auction in 1844 and sd Wright purchased the slaves with the full knowledge of the trust of the Will – before the sale Joseph R. Croom an agent and attorney was present and forbade the sale Because the plfs lived so far from Wayne Co it was difficult for Charles Croom to enforce the trust of the Will – Nancy Coor wants her property to be secured Thomas Coor lived in NC (NOTE: it does not say where but in another place it states he lived in SC) A legal notice to be run in the Raleigh papers for Thomas Coor to appear and answer the complaint NOTE: It is not clear if the name of Nancy Coor’s daughter was Any or Avy as both spellings were used.
