Wayne County, NC - Deeds - James A Fields to Matthew Jones - 1873 State of North Carolina } Wayne County } This indenture made and entered this fifth day of February AD one thousand eight hundred and seventy three between James A Fields and wife Sarah Fields of the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina of the first Matthew M Jones of the County and state aforesaid of the second part witnesses that for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and twenty dollars to the said James A Fields and wife Sarah in hand paid by the said Matthew M Jones at or before the sealing of this presents the receipt hereof is hereby fully acknowledged that the said James A Fields and wife Sarah have this day and by these presents bargained sold and conveyed alien and by these presents doth bargain sell and convey unto the said Matthew M Jones of the second part and his heirs Executes Administration and assigns a certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in the county of Wayne and in the state of North Carolina and on the east side of the W & WR Road and in the waters of the Mashey Branch and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a stake in the Goldsboro road in the run of the Marshey Branch just below the Casey Old Mill and runs thence with said road S 15 E 4 poles to a stake thence with the same continue S 15 W 39 poles to a stake thence with said road continues 1˝ E 78˝ poles to a large path leading from Casey’s old residence the Boykin place, thence with said path N 85˝ W 31 poles to a stake thence N 1˝ W 117 poles to a stake on said Marshey Branch known as the Demijohn corner thence down on the north side of the mill pond to the beginning, with the priviledge to raise the dam two feet higher containing twenty five acres to be the same more or less together with all and singular the tenements hereditaments minerals mines water and appurtenances thereto belonging is in any wise appertaining and the parties of the first doth for themselves and each of their heirs herein warrant and defend the right to the before bounded lands to be free clear from any and all incumbrances whatever to the party of the second part and his heirs forever. In testimony where of the said James A Fields and wife Sarah Fields of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals in said county day and date first above written.
