Wayne County, NC – Benjamin Best to Caty Grant, 1846

Know all men by these presents that I, BENJAMIN BEST, of the County of 
Wayne and State aforesaid for and in consideration of the natural love 
and affection which I have for CATY GRANT and for the further sum of 
one dollar to me in hand paid, I have given granted bargained and sold 
to the said KATY GRANT one Negro woman by the name of Louisa, reserving 
my life estate in said Negro. In testimony whereof I hereunto set my 
hand and seal this 12 th day of September 1846.
