Wayne County, NC – Benjamin Best to Lauiza, Susannah & Eliza Grant, 1846

Know all men by these presents that I, BENJAMIN BEST, of the county and 
state aforesaid for and in consideration of the natural love and 
affection which I have for LAUIZA GRANT, SUSANNAH GRANT and ELIZA 
GRANT, daughters of CATY GRANT and for the further consideration of the 
sum of one dollar to me in hand paid I have given granted bargained and 
sold unto the said LOUIZA GRANT and SUSANNAH GRANT the following 
Negroes. Viz. Liza to ELIZA GRANT; Penny to LAUIZA GRANT and Winey to 
SUSANNAH GRANT. Reserving however my life estate in all said Negroes. 
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 12th day 
of September 1846.
