Cooke WAYNE COUNTY, NC - DEEDS - Nathan Cook to Stephen Cook, Sr., 1820 1820 Nathan Cook to Stephen Cook, Sr. Deed of Sale Wayne County, North Carolina //Text of document follows// Be it Known that I William Betsill attorney for Nathan Cook of the County of Washington and State of Georgia for and in consideration of the Sum of Six hundred and Sixty one dollars & fifty cents to me in hand paid by Stephen Cook Sen. of the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina at and before the Sealing and Signing of these presents the receipt and payment whereof I hereby acknowledge having Bargained Sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and I do hereby Bargain sell enfeoff and confirm unto the said Stephen Cook Sen. his heirs & assigns forever all the Land that descends to the said Nathan Cook of the County of Washington and State of Georgia from the will of his father Arthur Cook being in the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina on the South side of Great Contentnea Creek and a branch called Turner Swamp being part of a tract of Land granted to Jones Cook of Dobbs County in the Province of North Carolina 15th day of October 1761 to have and to hold the said piece or parcel of Land with all ways of Woods waters and any other appurtenances thereunto belonging or appertaining to the said Stephen Cook Sen. his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple and I William Betsill Attorney for Nathan Cook any heirs Excrs. & administrators do hereby convenant and promise to and with the said Stephen Cook Sen. his heirs or assigns that I by myself my heirs Excrs. and admins. shall and will warrant and forever defend the said piece or parcel of Land with all and every of its members and appurtenances free from all lawful claims of any person or persons whatsoever unto the said Stephen Cook Sen. his heirs and assigns forever. Cook (Signed) Edwin Cook Know all men by these presents that I Nathan Cook of the County of Washington and State of Georgia have constituted made appointed and by these presents do constitute make and appoint William Betsill of the County and State aforesaid my true and Lawful Attorney for me and in my name and stead to sell Convey and execute a Deed or Deeds for all the Land that descends to me from the Will of my father Arthur Cook in the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina giving and granting unto my said attorney by these presents my full and whole power strength and authority in and about the premises to all intents and purposes as myself mite or could if I was personally present or as if the matter required more Special Authority than is herein given Ratifying all his acts and holding for firm and effectual all and whatsoever my said attorney shall lawfully do in and about the premises by virtue hereof In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this Eighth day of Jany 1820 and the XLIV year of the Independance of the United States. Real Estate Conveyances , 1813 - 1820, Book 10, pp. 231, 232. **Contributor's notes: The above Deed and accompanying Power of Attorney establishes that Nathan Cook who was in Washington County, Georgia in 1820 was the son of Arthur Cook and the grandson of Jones Cook of Wayne County, N. C. The land involved in this Deed was part of the original 1761 land grant to Jones Cook. The land was located in the northern part of Wayne County that became a part of Wilson County in 1856.
