Real Estate Conveyances 1779 - 1788, Book 1, Vol 1, p157 **Contributor's notes: The land covered by this original grant now lies in Wilson County. The plat alluded to in the grant was not recorded. The earliest evidence I have found that documents the presence of Jones Cook in Dobbs/Wayne County consists of two land grants from the Granville Proprietory Land Office in 1761 and 1763, some twenty years prior to the date of the above grant. Some researchers and a few official records refer to Jones Cook as "Jonas" and/or "Cooke". I have personally examined a number of original documents, including Jones' original 1783 Will, and every such document I have examined refers to him as "Jones Cook" and that is the way he himself signed his Will. __________________________________________________________________________ USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
