On February 21, 1850 Wilbert and Hepsey Futrell sold the land in this deed to 
William Carraway who is thought to be her uncle whose name appears in his father
John's division of lands in 1824.

Whereas the undersigned as Executor of the late Wm. Carraway dec’d filed a 
petition at August Term 1867 of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of Wayne 
County against the heirs of William Carraway for license to sell real estate of 
his testator for assets, and whereas a decree was duly obtained authorizing the 
undersigned to sell the real estate hereinafter described and whereas the 
undersigned sold the same at public sale at the Court House in Goldsboro on the 
18th day of December 1867 when David McKinne became the last and highest bidder 
for the sum of forty five (45) dollars and was declared the purchaser and 
whereas a report of said sale was made to said court and the same was duly 
confirmed and the undersigned was ordered to make title on the payment of the 
purchase money and further the said D. McKinne having transferred his bid to 
Sarah Fields wife of J. A. Fields and this purchase money having been paid by 
the said Sarah Fields.

Now therefore this indenture made this the 23d day of September 1870 between the 
undersigned David Everitt Executor of said William Carraway of the first part 
and the said Sarah Fields wife of J. A. Fields of the second part both of the 
County of Wayne and State of North Carolina. Witnesseth that the said party of 
the first part for and in consideration of the sum of forty five (45) dollars 
the amount of the purchase money the receipt and payment of which is hereby 
acknowledged has given granted bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents 
does give grant bargain sell and convey to the said Sarah Fields the party of 
the second part her heirs assigns that tract of land lying in Wayne County 
formerly belonging to the estate of Wm. Carraway deeded to him by W. J. Futrel 
and drawn by said Futrel’s wife Hepsey in the division of the lands of John 
McKinne dec’d and known as lot no 2 in said division bounded as follows:

Beginning at a stake at the west end of the mill dam and runs with Robert 
McKinne’s line reversed South 56 West 151 poles to a stake on the north side of 
Poplar Branch his corner in the back line South 15 East 70 poles to a stake then 
N 57 East 166 poles to the run of Carraway’s Creek in the mill pond then down 
the run of Carraway’s Creek as it meanders to a stake about 60 yards above the 
mill dam house then with the mill dam to the beginning containing seventy two 
acres, to have and to hold to the said Sarah Fields her heirs and assigns 
forever. In witness whereof the said D. B. Everitt Executor of Wm Carraway dec’d 
has hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year above written.

North Carolina Wayne County – In Probate Court Feby 6th 1873. The due execution 
of the foregoing deed was this day proved before me by the oath and examination 
of A. B Hollowell one of the subscribing witnesses thereto. Let it be 
registered.
