Everitt, Samuel Smith, William Carraway, John Wright & John Slocumb Trustees of the Everittsville Female Academy Lot 7, Academy Square Wayne County Deed Book 20, p 504-506 This Indenture made this the 23rd day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven between John W. S. West and David B. Everitt of the State of North Carolina and county of Wayne of the first part and Willis Hall, John Everitt, David B. Everitt, Samuel Smith, William Carraway, John Wright and John C. Slocumb of the same state and county, Trustees of Everittsville Female Academy and their successors of the other part Witnesseth that the said John W. S. West and David B. Everitt for and in consideration of the sum of forty dollars to us in hand paid by the said Willis Hall and other Trustees at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt and payment whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell and convey unto the said Willis Hall and others Trustees and their successors one lot of land containing four acres situate lying and being in the Village of Everittsville and known in the plot of said village as the Academy Square and numbered seven. To have and to hold the above bargained premises together with all and singular the privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging to them the said Trustees and their successors forever. On the following conditions and reservations that is to say. That the Trustees and their successors shall not build or cause to be built on the above named lot of land, that this deed is intended to convey any house or houses besides the one now used as an Academy except that the interest of the school may require an enlargement of the present building and that no person or family of persons shall be permitted to reside in the Academy or any addition thereto. In the event that the school shall at any time go down and not be revived again in ten successive years from the time it is discontinued the land shall revert back to the said J. W. S. West and D. B. Everitt their heirs or assigns in the same proportion that each one owns at the time of making this conveyance by their refunding the amount they received for said lot and the said J. W. S. West and D. B. Everitt do by these presents bind themselves their heirs executors and administrators to take the Academy Building together with all the improvements on the lot at whatever price a committee of three disinterested men shall value them at the time of the reversion of the land each to take the improvements on that part of the lot which reverts to him. And the money arising from said reversion of land and sale of improvements shall be divided among the subscribers their heirs executors or administrators in proportion to the amount each one subscribed. And we the said J. W. S. West and David B. Everitt do by these presents bind ourselves our heirs and assigns to warrant and defend the right and title of the above bargained premises unto the said Willis Hall and others Trustees and their successors forever.
