Kornegay, William Carraway, John Wright and William Hollowell Trustees Methodist Episcopal Church South Lot 53 Wayne County Deed Book 21, p 376-377 This Indenture made this the 20th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine between David B. Everitt of the State of North Carolina and county of Wayne of the one part and Curtis Hooks, John C. Slocumb, Ezekiel Smith, John Smith, Daniel Smith, James F. Kornegay, William Carraway, John Wright and William Hollowell Trustees (the same being elected on the 13th day of May 1848 by the congregation usually worshiping at the Church in Everittsville) In Trust for the uses and purposes hereinafter mentioned all of the state and county aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that I the said David B. Everitt for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid at and upon the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have given granted bargained sold released confirm and conveyed and by these presents do give grant bargain sell release confirm and convey unto them the said Curtis Hooks, John C. Slocumb, Ezekiel Smith, John Smith, Daniel Smith, James F. Kornegay, William Carraway, John Wright and William Hollowell and their successors (trustees in trust) for the use and purposes herein after mentioned and declared all the right, title and interest which I the said D. B. Everitt have in a certain lot or piece of land situate lying and being in the Village of Everittsville known on the plot of said Village as No. 53 and containing one acre. To have and to hold the above mentioned lot of land together with all and singular the privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging to them the said Trustees and their successors in office forever in trust that they shall erect and build or cause to be erected and built thereon a house or place of worship for the use of the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South according to the rules and discipline which from time to time may be agreed upon and adopted by the Ministers and Preachers of the said Church at their General Conference, and in further trust and confidence that they shall at all times forever hereafter permit such Ministers and Preachers belonging to the said Church as shall from time to time be duly authorized by the General Conference of the Ministers and Preachers of the said Methodist Episcopal Church South or by the annual Conferences authorized by the said General Conference to preach and expound Gods holy word therein and I the said D. B. Everitt do by these presents warrant and forever defend the above mentioned lot of land with the appurtenances thereto belonging unto them the said Trustees and their successors against the lawful claim or claims of all persons whatever.
