State of North Carolina Wayne County This deed made this 27th day of November 1895 by C.J. Hudson and wife Mary of Wayne county state of North Carolina to G.E. Grantham of Wayne County State of North Carolina. Witnessed that the said C.J. Hudson and wife Mary in consideration of Two thousand (2000) Dollars to them paid by G. E. Grantham the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these present do bargain sell and convey to said G.E. Grantham, heirs, executors, administrators and assigns a tract of land in Grantham township in Wayne County State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of J.H. Grantham, G.E. Grantham and others bounded as follows viz: being lot No. 2 in the division of the lands of Hiram Grantham deceased registered in book No. 43 page 37(?) in the office of Register of Deeds of said county bounded as described as follows. Beginning at lightwood stake J.H. Grantham's corner and running S701/2 poles E2301/4 poles to a pine thence N15 E 96 poles to a small water oak then N151/2 W76 poles to a stake thence W210 poles to a stake in the middle of the old road thence with the road S331/2 W19 poles thence S11/2 W76 poles to the beginning containing 1861/2 acres more or less. To have and to hold the aforesaid tract of land and all privileges and apertures thereunto belonging to the said G.E. Grantham his heirs and assigns to them only now and behoof. The said C.J. Hudson and wife Mary covenant that they are seized of said premises in fee and have right to convey in fee simple that the same are free from all encumbrances and that they will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said C.J. Hudson and wife Mary have here unto set their hand and seal the day and year above written. C.J. (hisxmark) Hudson seal Mary (herxmark) Hudson seal I, W.K. Pigford do hereby certify that C.J. Hudson and Mary Hudson his wife personally appeared before me this day and acknowledged this due execution of the appraised deed and the said Mary Hudson being by me privately separated apart from her said husband, touching her voluntary execution of the same doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily without fear of compulsion of her said husband or any other person and that she doth still voluntarily assent thereto.
