Hudson and S.C. Grantham Witnessed that the said C.J. Hudson in consideration of Five Dollars to him paid has bargained and sold and by these presents does convey unto said S.C. Grantham and his heirs three certain tracts of land in Grantham Twp in said Wayne County containing in all three hundred and eighty five acres more of less being the same land this day conveyed by deed from said S.C. Grantham to said C.J. Hudson to which deeds reference is made for a full and particular description. To have and to hold the above conveyed lands and all improvements to the said S.C. Grantham, his heirs and assigns in fee simple. The condition of the foregoing obligation is that whereas the said C.J. Hudson is justly indebted to said S.C. Grantham for the purchase money of the above described lands in the amount of thirty five thousand pounds of low middling cotton ginned and in bales of 500 lbs. each to the delivered as follows: 14 bales or 7000 lbs to be delivered annually on the 1st day of January 1881, 1882, 1882, 1884 and 1885 at Grantham store in said Wayne County as is evidenced by his promissory notes dated as above and is honestly desirous of securing the payment of the same at maturity. Now therefore if the said C.J. Hudson shall pay or cause to the paid and every of the aforesaid notes of 14 bales each as the same shall be ____ due and payable then the above obligation to be void. But if default shall be made in the payment of either of the said annual installments when same become due the said S.C. Grantham is hereby authorized and empowered to advertise the said land at the Court House door and three other public places in Wayne County for thirty days and after such advertisement sell the same for cash at public auction to the highest bidder at the Court House door in Goldsboro and make title to the purchaser and out of the proceeds of such sale (after paying the expenses thereof) pay whatever amount (as well as what may be due as what is not then due) shall then remain unpaid and any balance remaining shall be paid over to the said C.J.
