13 Apr 1848 - We, Elizabeth Herring, Anne Herring, John Lewis in right of my 
wife Abigail, Edith Herring, Katy Herring heirs and distributees of the 
estate of James Herring Jun'r dec'd of the one part and John A Kornegay 
guardian to the heirs of Joel Herring dec'd, also distributees of said 
estate have consented and agreed that Benjamin Herring administrator of said 
James Herring Jr dec'd shall pay out of his estate, the said James, in his 
hands the sum of $295 to Hatch Whitfield to effect a compromise and settle a 
dispute and law suit concerning the title to a certain tract of land lying 
in Wayne on the Horsepen Pocoson and which the said James Herring Jr 
purchased from William A Whitfield by deed of 12 Jul 1842 and that the said 
Benjamin Herring as administrator shall take from the said Hatch Whitfield 
his deed for the said tract containing about 195 3/4 acres.
