All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Guy Potts http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00017.html#0004214 June 27, 2020, 7:38 am Written: 1837 Wayne County, NC Register of Deeds Bk 21, pg 385 William Thompson High Sheriff of Wayne on August 3, 1837 and through a writ commanded the goods and chattels in default thereof of the lands and tenements of Hilyard Lewis if to be found in his county he should come to be made the sum of $21 with interest on the sum of $21 from May 28, 1837 which said Henry Lewis recovered for his debt and damages against the said Hilyard Lewis and which were then and there adjudged to the said Henry Lewis for his debt and damages. Also the further sum of $3.50 and charges by him in his said suit expended and whereof the said William Thomson was liable as appears of record and that he should have said monies before the said court on the 3rd Monday of November, 1837 then next ensuing then and there to render to the said Henry Lewis the said monies for his said debt damages and costs and the he should have then and there that writ. Whereas also the said Sheriff did on that day return to the said court that by virtue of the said writ to him directed he had served and taken in execution a certain piece of land in Wayne (sic) (Greene?) on the south side of Contentney Creek it being all the interest the said Hilyard Lewis has in right of his wife in the lands of Thomas Thomlinson dec'd where said dec'd lived and died which remains in his hands so that he could not have the monies therein mentioned at the day and place therein specified. The Sheriff gave legal notice of the time and place of sale of the said land and on November 20, 1837 at public sale did sell the land to Henry Lewis for $11 he being the highest bidder.
