This indenture made the sixteenth day of January in the year of the Lord one
thousand eight hundred and four between Jesse Lofley and Sarah Lofley of the
state of Georgia and County of Jefferson of the one part and Nathan Pike of
the county of Wayne and state of North Carolina of the other part.
Witnesseth that the said Jesse and Sarah Lofley for and in consideration of
the sum of one hundred dollars to them on hand paid by Nathan Pike at and
before the sealing and signing of these presents the receipt whereof is
hereby acknowledged for themselves and their heirs do hereby bargain sell
alien inf___ and confirm unto the said Nathan Pike his heirs exrs and
assigns forever a certain piece or parcel of land in the County of Wayne
containing eighty acres lying and being in the County aforesaid on the south
side of slough joining John Thompsons and said Pikes land.  Beginning at a
stake in the said slough where the road crosses and runs with said road so 7
E 24 pole then along said road so 10 E 42 pole then with the said road again
So 1 E 54 pole to a stake on the side of said road in the patent line then
with said line so 42 E 61 pole to a red oak the begining corner of the said
patent then No. 28 E 180 pole to the run of the slough then aforesaid run as
it meanders to the first station it being the land and premisses left the
said Jesse Lofley by the last will & testament of his deceased father and
part of a patent taken up by John Ellet the date not known to us at this
time.  To have and to hold all and singular which said piece or parcel of
land with all ways woods waters and every other appurtenances thereunto
belonging or appertaining to the said Jesse and Sarah Lofley for themselves
their heirs Exrs and admrs hath hereby sold set over conveyed released and
confirmed in open market to the said Nathan Pike his heirs exrs admr and
assigns doth hereby covenant and promise to and with the said Jesse and
Sarah Lofley and their heirs exrs or assigns that they said Jesse and Sarah
Lofley and their heirs exrs and admr shall and well warrant and forever
defend the said piece or parcel of land with all and every of its persons
whatsoever unto the said Nathan Pike his heirs exrs admrs and assigns
forever.  In witness whereof the said Jesse and Sarah Lofley hath hereunto
set their hands and seals the day and year above written.
