Powell Papers Personal Collection (PC 1732) State of North Carolina } Wayne County } Know all men, that I William Rouse of the county of Wayne & state of North Carolina for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to me paid by John H. Powell of the same county and state do hereby bargain and sell and convey unto the said John H. Powell his heirs and assigns, the following named slaves, to wit: Henry, Ailsey and Mary, being the same which I have bequeathed to my daughter Nancy C. Powell, wife of Daniel A. Powell in a will heretofore by me executed (said slaves have been heretofore in the possession of the said Daniel A. Powell) - also two feather beds bedsteads & furniture and one sorrell mule And I the said William Rouse for myself and my heirs do covenant with the said John A. Powell his heirs and assigns, to warrant and defend the title to the property hereby conveyed, against the lawful claims of all persons In special trust and confidence nevertheless, that the said John H. Powell hold the property hereby conveyed to the sole separate and exclusive use of the said Nancy C. Powell for and during her life and after her death, that he convey said property in fee simple to the children of said Nancy C.
