This deed made the 8th day of December 1883 by J. R. Smith to Newman Potts both 
of Wayne County North Carolina
Witneseth that the said Smith for and in consideration of one dollar paid had 
bargained and sold released & by these presents does bargain sell and release and 
convey unto said Potts & his heirs, a certain tract or parcel of land in said 
county lying on the north side of the White Hall road going from Goldsboro, 
adjoining the lands of J. J. Casey, William Daniel, Mary O. Murphy & said Potts 
bounded as follows:
Beginning at a stake in said road and runs South 50 ½ east three poles to a stake 
& thence north 38 ½ east 258 ¼ poles to a stake, thence north 50 ½ west 3 poles 
to a stake, thence south 38 ½ west 258 ¼ poles to the beginning containing five 
acres, said five acres lies entirely on the eastern part of the tract of land 
this day conveyed by deed herewith to sd Potts by B. F. Murphy & wife Mary O. 
Murphy and is included within the boundaries of the tract of land described in 
said deed.
To have and to hold said five acres to him the said Potts and his heirs. The only 
claim or right which said Smith has in said five acres is a mortgage from said B. 
F. Murphy & wife.
