Wayne County, NC - Benjamin Umphlet Deed to David Pope, 1817 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Peggy Fischer State of North Carolina Wayne County Know all Men by these presents that I Benjamin Umphlet for and in consideration of the Sum of one Hundred & Twenty Dollars To me in hand paid or Secured to be paid by David Pope do give Grant, Bargain, Sell, Set over all my Right of a Certain Track of Land Containing one Hundred & a Seven Acres more or less, begining at a Little branch David Pope's line, runs up the said Popes line To a White Oak, then South to a Stake, in or near Hose Bass's line, Then East To John Ludises ould line, then to a Pine in a Small Branch and then South to a pine in Hose Bass's line, then East to a Post oak and then down a Small Drean to the first Station, To have and to hold the Said Track of Land all the profits & priviledges thereunto belonging to him the Said David Pope his Heirs & assigns forever moreover the said Benjamin Umphlet for myself my Heirs & assigns, Exors, Admrs. do Warrant and forever defend the Said Track of Lands unto him the said David Pope his Heirs & assigns from the Lawful _right or Clame of any person or persons, in Witness whereof I have Set my hand & fixt my Seal this the 17th day of December 1817---------- Benjamin Umphlet Jacob Barnes Jeremiah Bass Wayne County November Term 1818 Then was the within deed of Sale from Benjamin Umphlet to David Pope duly proved in open Court by the oath of Jacob Barnes a Subscribing Witness to the Same and ordered that the Same be Registred------------ Test P.
