At the Academy at Everettsville on the first Monday in April 1849 the following 
gentlemen met to form the Wayne Agricultural Society to promote better farming 
methods, to improve breeding and racing stock, and to hold a county fair each fall.

Rooms were reserved at the Academy and fees set at $5.00 per annum.

William D. Cobb was elected president, John Kennedy vice president, Jas. H. 
Everett secretary and Richard Washington treasurer.
