The Abolition Raid

On Tuesday evening last, it is understood that 1500 cavalry of the enemy advanced 
from below on the south side of Neuse river and took possession of the Wilmington 
and Weldon Rail Road at Mount Olive, cut the telegraphic wires, tore up the Rail 
Road and burnt the Depot buildings. We have rumors that they had burnt 
Everittsville and Col. Collier's premises, but the rumor lacks confirmation. The 
fear is, that while the largest body of the enemy advanced in the direction of 
Goldsboro that the cavalry force have continued their depredations on the Road in 
the direction of Wilmington.
