"North Carolina Gazetteer"

Everittsville, former community near Dudley in Wayne County. Prior to the Civil War
a group of plantation owners built homes together here and went out daily to tend 
their nearby plantations. There were schools and churches, and in 1851 a post 
office, but not stores or other businesses. Named for Joseph Everitt, early settler.
Only a cemetery remains to mark the site.
