Peal, Mordecai, 1st Sergeant
Company C, 27th Regiment NC Troops
Born in Wayne County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Lenoir 
County at age 24, April 17, 1861. Mustered in as Private and was promoted to 
Corporal on May 1, 1861. Promoted to 1st Sergeant on July 20, 1861. 
Hospitalized at Charlottesville, Virgina, October 18, 1863, with a gunshot 
wound. Place and date wounded not reported. Returned to duty on an unspecified 
date. Captured at or near Sutherland's Station, Virginia, April 2, 1865. 
Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 16, 1865, after 
taking the Oath of Allegiance.
