Wayne County, NC - Jesse Herring Revolutionary War Pension, 1832 ~~~~~~~~~~ March 28, 1929 Mrs. H.H. Thompson Columbus, Georgia Madam: I advise you from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim W.7725 it appears that Jesse Herring was born August 31, 1762 in Wayne County, North Carolina. While residing in said Wayne County he enlisted and served as a private in the North Carolina Cavalry as follows: From September 1778 three months in Captain Joseph Boon's Company, Colonel Richard Caswell's Regiment; from March 1779 three months in Captain Jesse Jernigan's Company, Colonel Richard Caswell's Regiment; from June 1780 three months in Captain David Jernigan's Company after which he volunteered and served eight months under Captain Benjamin Harrison in Colonel McKinney's Regiment and served until after Cornwallis was taken. In 1795 he moved to Darlington District, South Carolina and from there to Walton County, Georgia. He was allowed pension on his application executed November 23, 1832 at which time he was living in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He died there December 8, 1834 or December 7, 1835. The soldier married June 10, 1793 in Darlington District, South Carolina, Enomy or Enomey Jones or Smith. At one time she stated that the name before her marriage was Jones and at another time she stated that her name before her marriage was Smith, no explanation given as to the use of both names. She was allowed pension on her application executed July 6, 1855 at which time she was living in Cherokee County, Alabama, aged eighty two years. Their children were: Alen H. born May 10, 1794 David born September 6, 1797 Alexander born October 14, 1800 Frederick born October 30, 1804 James G.H. born January 28, 1807 Daniel born July 6, 1809 Jesse P. born June 28, 1811 Elizabeth born June 2, 1815 Respectfully, E.W.
