Wayne County, NC - Richard King Revolutionary War Pension, 1832 ~~~~~~~~~~ June 29, 1930 The Quartermaster General Memorial Branch War Department Washington, DC Dear Sir: Reference is made to your request for the Revolutionary War record of Richard King who was born in 1757 and died about 1853 in Taliaferro County, Georgia. The data furnished herein were obtained from papers on file in claim for pension W.7996 based upon service of Richard King in the War of the Revolution. The date and place of birth of Richard King are not given. He was the son of Drury King, name of his mother not shown. Richard King enlisted sometime in 1775, served as substitute for his father, three months as private in Captain Williams' South Carolina Company. He served three months as private in Captain Lane's Company in Colonel Sowell's South Carolina Regiment. The place of residence at the time of these enlistments was not stated. He then moved to Wayne County, North Carolina, enlisted and served three months as private in Colonel Farmer's North Carolina Regiment and was in the battle of Eutaw Springs. He also served seven weeks and was engaged in guard duty in Hillsboro, North Carolina, dates and officers for this service not given. He was allowed pension on his application executed September 13, 1832 at which time he was a resident of Taliaferro County, Georgia. Richard King died August 4, 1852.
