Wayne County, NC - John Wise Revolutionary War Record ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions in Wayne County 1823-1844 C.103.30002 State of North Carolina Wayne County - On the 19th day of Februry 1823 Personall appeared in open court being a Court of Record of said State having the power of Jining & imprisoning, John Wise, aged about Seventy Seven years resident in the county & state afore said who being first duly sworn according to Law doth upon his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows, That he enlisted for the first time in the month of June 1776 in the Company Commanded by Captain William Ward of the fifth regiment of the North Carolina line in which Company he served one year. That he enlisted the second time at Vally Forge in Pennsylvania under Captain Benjamin Coleman of the same regiment in the month of December 1777 and was afterwards transfered to the Company Commanded by Captain Phila Taylor, in which he served two years & was discharged at Home in South Carolina having Mustered for a Considerable time as a Corporal before his said discharge, and that he was in the Barrles of Brandy wine & Germantown. He further swears that he was resident Citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 & that he has not since that time by Gift, Sale or in any measure disposed of his property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring himself within the provisions of an act of Congress intitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service, of the United States in the Revolutionary War passed on; the 18th day of March 1818 & that he has not nor has any person in Trust for him and property of Securities or Contracts or debts due to him nor has he any income other than what is contained in a Schedule hereunto __ and by him Subscribed (to wit) One Female mare value about $40 Four shots 4 Twelve pigs 6 One Sow 3 Two pots 2 Two dishes 5 Five Knives & four forks 50 Two plow hoes 1.50 One axe 1.00 One water Pail 40 ______ $63.70 John Wise - Sworn to and Subscribed on the 19th day of february 1823 before the Court of pleas & Quarter Sessions for Wayne County P. Hooks clk The said John Wise doth upon his oath further declare & say that he is by occupation a farmer & lives upon rented lands that he is not able to pursue his labours by reason of an injury in his sholder received in the line of his services in the Revolutionary War that he has living with him one son aged about twenty two years and one daughter aged about thirty years but neither of them contribute to the support of this declarant John Wise Sworn to subsented 19th Feb 1823 P.
