Daily Review March 5, 1881
The Goldsboro Messenger: The lightning of Friday evening struck in several places. 
Gus. McKinnie, a worth and industrious colored man, living in the Everittsville 
section near Goldsboro was instantly killed by lightning while on his premises 
Friday evening. His faithful dog and two chickens were killed at the same time.
