Odum, charged with abandoning his wife and failing to provide for her support, last night returned a verdict of not guilty. The case had been hard fought. The relatives of the wife, who was a Miss Holt before marriage, employed counsel to assist the solicitor. The defendant is from Goldsboro and a member of a good family. He came here and married the Holt girl. Later he left her and by habeas corpus proceedings obtained custody of the child born to the marriage. The child is now living with Odum's parents in Goldsboro. The family of the girl has since prosecuted the father in order, he alleges, to regain possession of the child.
