The first bale of cotton received - the Silver Goblet Awarded We were much pleased to notice the first bale of new cotton being drayed from the depot this evening to the store of Messrs. William H. Oliver & Co. This is the first bale of North Carolina cotton received in any town in the state this season. It was raised by Major George W. Collier of Wayne county. Mr. Collier has several times had the first bale in market and we are pleased to see the Silver Goblet awarded to one who, by his energy and perseverance, is so worthy to receive it and as soon as we learn of its being disposed of we will quote prices, &c.
