Jno. N. Andrews Rev. Curtis Hooks was in early life a traveling preacher but for nearly half a century a local elder and a man of commanding appearance and fine voice. His sermons and prayers were sterotyped but the people who heard them perhaps four times a year would laugh and cry and shout as though they were fresh from the mint of God. He married more people and preached more funerals than any man who has lived in Wayne County. He was at the great meeting, not preaching, but exhorting and praying and occasionally getting shouting happy. When that occured his wife would seize his coat tail and follow him around the church, evidently to keep him from flying away to glory. Good people, they are both now in the realms of bliss.
