A mob of over 150 negroes, armed with knives, pistols and clubs, marched through the city and defied the law. The sheriff and city authorities, finding themselves unable to cope with the mob, called upon the Goldsboro Rifles for assistance, which was promply rendered, and which had the effect of quelling the disturbance. It looked for a time as if a riot were imminent. The negroes repaired to a hall in their locality and are now holding a meeting and the military is at the armory ready for any emergency. The fire department has also been ordered to be ready at the first alarm. This is the first touch we have had of Russellism. More trouble is expected.
