Pearsall scpearsall@bellsouth.net August 13, 2006, 8:04 pm The State Lois (Penny) Pearsall Arrington Penny Arrington Columbia - Services for Penny Lois Pearsall Arrington, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Society of Military Widows, Chapter SMW1, 5535 Hempstead Way, Springfield, VA 22151-4094. Mrs. Arrington died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999. Born Nov. 12, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Jenny Lewis and George Franklin Pearsall. She was the widow of the late James Stuart Arrington, who died in 1956. She and her husband lived in Washington, D. C., Omaha, Neb., Puerto Rico and Roswell, N. M. She moved to Columbia in 1956, where she was a sales representative for Avon for 40 years. Mrs. Arrington was the founding member of the Columbia Chapter (Chapter #1) of the Society of Military Widows, the second-oldest chapter in the United States and the first "numbered" chapter in the country. In 1994, she was honored at the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Columbia Chapter, where she was awarded a "Purple Heart". Mrs. Arrington was also a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Arrington of Columbia and Ralph and Susan Arrington of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Stuart, Katherine (Katie) and Scott Arrington of Mount Pleasant; sister, Annie Pearsall James of Mount Olive, N.C.; brother, Charlie L.
