Died, on the 22nd ult. (Oct. 7), at the residence of his Father, Hon. W. H. 
Battle, at Chapel Hill, Dr. Joel D. Battle, of Everettsville, Wayne County.

Tribute of Respect
Dialectic Hall, Nov. 24th

Whereas, it has pleased God in his all-wise dispensation to remove from earth by
the hand of death our fellow member, Dr. Joel D. Battle, in the midst of his
usefullness as a Christian citizen; therefore,

Resolved, That the Dialectic Society deeply deplores the loss of one of its members,
around whom so may bright and manly virtues shone with so much spenldor.

Resolved, That while this sad and melancholy event has greatly pained our hearts,
we earnestly sympathise with his bereaved parents and relatives, and offer our
heartfelt condolence to them and to his afflicted and desolate widow.

Resolved, That in joining the distressed train of mourners, and mingling our tears
with theirs, we would entreat them to look to Him who does all things in mercy, and
does foreordain all things for good.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be entered upon our records, and be sent
to the family of the deceased, to his bereaved widow, and also to the Raleigh Standard,
Goldsboro Tribune, Greensboro Patriot and University Magazine, with a request that 
they be published.
