Dr. Eugene Hastings Brooks died at his home on Main street Saturday morning at 
about 4 o'clock after a short illness, pneumonia causing his death. Funeral 
services were conducted from the Main Street Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 
3 o'clock by the pastor, Dr. L. W. Crawford, assisted by Rev. W. R. Bradshaw and 
Rector W. L. Mellichampe.

Dr. Brooks was born in the little town of Everettsville, Wayne county, seven 
miles south of Goldsboro, on the 20th of September, 1871. He was prepared for 
college in the schools of Wilson, Goldsboro and Shelby. After going through the 
sophomore year at Old Trinity College, he pursued a course in medicine and 
graduated from the Baltimore Medical College in 1894.
