Cobb Dies in Florida Tallahassee, Fla., Nov 4. Mrs. John P. Cobb died at her home in this city Monday, October 30, after an illness of several weeks. The funeral was held from the family residence on North Calhoun street Tuesday at 4:30 o'clock, Rev. Richard E. Boykin, rector of St. John's Episcopal church, conducting the service. Mrs. Cobb, before her marriage Miss Sallie Elizabeth Whitfield, the third daughter of Gen. James Bryan Whitfield and his wife Sallie Elizabeth Wooten, was born at Burns Place, the old Whitfield home in Lenoir County, North Carolina November 13, 1837. On December 7, 1865 she married Col. John Probert Cobb of the Second Regiment of North Carolina infantry, and for a number of years he and Mrs. Cobb made their home at Mount Auburn, NC, the ancestral home of the Cobb family. In 1883 the family moved to Florida and for the last twenty years have been residents of Tallahassee. Seven children were born to them Mrs. Cobb is survived by her husband, Col. John P. Cobb, one brother Maj. James C. Whitfield of Alabama, one son, William D. Cobb of Brooksville, Fla., and five daughters, Mrs. J. C. Burwell of Tallahassee, Mrs. G. T. Marshall of Greenwood, SC, Mrs. A. S. Nelson of Dunedin, Fla, and Misses Winifred and Grace Cobb of Tallahassee, besides a large number of other relatives in North Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi and Connecticut.
