Geo. W. Collier Dead The Goldsboro Argus give the following tribute to the memory of Col. Geo. W. Collier, a brother-in-law of Mr. Wm. H. Oliver. A life spanning three quarters of a century and measuring all the years of Goldsboro's history, from her earliest hamlet to the present hour of her broad domain and massive structures, has gone out in our midst. In the quietness of the sleeping chamber the soul of one of our oldest citizens passed on yester morn into "the dreamland of man's sublime destiny." This is the sad intelligence that confronted our citizens when they came forth from their homes Saturday morning to meet their daily duties, and it filled all hearts with sorrow inexpressible, for he was universally revered and beloved. He was in the 76th year of his age and leaves a wife and five grown children, three sons and two daughters, who will feel their loss most keenly, for he was ever a devoted husband and loving father. But it is not their lot to "mourn as those who have no hope." With the eye of faith they can follow him out "beyond earth's sight" into the blessed light of God's unveiled face, where the pledge of the Saviour of mankind is fulfilled, that He will give His beloved rest. The funeral of Col. Collier was held Sunday afternoon at 8 o'clock from St. Stephens Episcopal church of which he was a member from the formation of the parish and was largely instrumental in the erection of that beautiful edifice.
