OCTOBER 11, 1918 This Splendid Young Man Succumbs to Pneumonia Following Attack of the Spanish Influenza Again the Argus is called upon to chronicle the passing of one of the younger men of our own, Mr. John Collins, just rounding his 35th year, and recently married, his lovely and devoted young wife being also now prostrated with an attack of the malady, and rendered the more critical under the appalling tragedy of this great sorrow. John Collins, from his boyhood was a model, docile at home, diligent at school, correct in his every day living, studious in his service and beloved by all who knew him. He was the youngest son of Mr. W. H. Collins, so well known to all Goldsboro, who survives him, together with his oldest brother Mr. James F. Collins and an older sister, Mrs. Carrie Forsythe, both of Raleigh, besides his young wife. Deceased was book keeper for the John Slaughter Company of this city, which position he had held for several years, and by whom his untimely death is deplored as a keen personal sorrow—as it is generally by all Goldsboro. Mr. Collins was taken with the prevailing malady only a few days ago, and it was not generally known that he was even on the sick list, so that the announcement of his death, which occurred at 1:05 o’clock this morning, is as startling as it is sorrowful, while the inexpressibly tender sympathy of all our people goes out to the stricken young wife and the venerable father of this lovable young man, as well as to his sister and brother. Mr. Jas. F. Collins and Mrs. Forsythe arrived from Raleigh today to attend the funeral, which is being held from the home on St. Claire street this afternoon as we go to press.
