Wayne County, NC - Obituary of Rena Mae Martin Chestnut, 1994 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rena Mae Martin Chestnut - died April 24 1994, at Mt. Olive Nursing Center, in Mt. Olive, NC. Born on July 7, 1911, in Johnston County to Isaac George Martin and Minnie Williford Martin. Rena married Roland Bedford Chestnut on June 23, 1933, in the Wayne County Courthouse, in Goldsboro, NC. They were married for almost 60 years. She was laid to rest through Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and beside her husband in Wayne Memorial Park on April 27, 1994. Preceding her in death is her sisters: Amy Jane Martin Kennedy (1947 - Johnston County), Myrtle Sue Martin (1904 - Johnston County), Fannie Georgeanna Martin Parker (1992 - Johnston County), Thelma Inez Martin Hayes (1953 - Wayne County), and Minnie Norene Martin Blackman (1990 - Wayne County) Surviving is one son, Roland Keith Chestnut of Kenly, NC. Surviving are her sisters: Beulah Holt of Virginia Beach, Va., Sudie Barbara Martin of Goldsboro, Mary Ann Johnson of Mt. Olive Nursing Center, Pauline Martin Johnson of Columbia, SC. Surviving is one brother, George Bowden Martin of Grantham, NC. She lived in Wayne County, from 1933 to 1994 (61 Years) Rena was much like her husband. She helped a lot of folks in the community. She helped her husband farm and did so by herself, when he would work at the Old Prison Camp (US Prison) in Goldsboro. She loved to raise vegetables in her garden and Weeping Willow Trees.
