E. Everitt Passes Away Here Body Carried to Goldsboro Where Funeral Will Be Held at 4 o'clock This Afternoon After forty years of dental practice in Raleigh, Dr. D. E. Everitt, well known among the members of his profession in the South, died yesterday afternoon at two o'clock at Rex Hospital, where he was taken Sunday. At his death Dr. Everitt was president of the Raleigh Dental Society. The State orgainzation of dentists, the North Carolina Dentists' Association of which Dr. Everitt was a charter member many years ago honored him with the presidency. Last night the body was carried to Goldsboro where the funeral will take place this afternoon at four o'clock from the residence of his niece, Mrs. Ernest B. Dewey. The body was accompannied to Goldsboro by Mrs. Dewey, Mr. Crawford, his nephew and Dr. J. M. Fleming of Raleigh. Born in Everittsville Dr. Everitt was born in Everittsville, Wayne County, in 1846. His parents were John and Rachel Everitt. Enlisting in the army of the Confederacy at the age of fifteen, he served through the war. He undertook the study of dentistry immediately after the war and was graduated from the Philadelphia College of Dentistry and Surgery in 1868. For a few months following the completion of his course, he practiced dentistry in Wilminton. From Wilminton he moved to Memphis, Tenn., and came to Raleigh in 1876. Here he was associated with Dr. J. H. Crawford for awhile. Not Considered Seriously Ill At the time of his death Dr. Everitt was making his home with Mr. James A. Briggs on Hillsboro street. It was there he was taken ill and carried to Rex Hospital. His condition was not considered serious until yesterday. One year ago the dentists of Raleigh gave Dr. Everitt a dinner in celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of his entry into the dental profession. He was highly esteemed throughout the entire dental profession of the South, and was regarded as an extraordinarily able dentist. The good will of his brothers in the profession apparently only increased in him his feeling of responsibility for those younger men starting out in dentistry. And for these he had a large measure of charity and helpfulness. Dental Offices Will Close All the dental offices in Raleigh will be closed this afternoon after 2 o'clock in respect to the memory of the dean of the dental profession. Many of the dentists, along with other friends, will go to Goldsboro today to attend the funeral.
