The pastor, Rev. Mr. Joyner, assisted by the Rev. Tom Bizzell of Whitley officiated. Interment was in the Edwards cemetery near Rosewood. Mrs. Gurley was the former Mary Frances Willoughby. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Susan Nichols of Goldsboro, route 2 and Mrs. Bettie Pittman of Pikeville, route 2: three sons, Luby Gurley of Goldsboro, Lewis of Smithfield, and Pvt. David C. Gurley, serving overseas; seven brothers, Jim and Andrew Willoughby of Kenly; John of Clayton, William and Richard of Pikeville, Otho and Oscar of Goldsboro; one sister, Mrs. Jane Langston of Princeton; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Additional Comments: Note: Mary Frances was the second wife of Edward Thomas Gurley. His first wife was Annie Ranza Ophelia Daughtry. Mary's first husband was Raiford Reoscar "Tobe" Gurley, son of Lewis Gurley and wife, Betsy Edwards. Mary's parents were Bythan Willoughby and Sarah "Sack" Sally Ophelia Woodard.
