Wayne County, NC - James Kirby, 1903 From: "The Headlight" "Offical organ of Wayne County" "Goldsboro, NC" "April 2, 1903" Killed at a cutting spell. While attending a "cutting spell" given by Mr. Thomas Brown, in Pikeville Township, Monday, Mr. James Davis, sometimes known as James Kirby, was killed by a falling limb striking him on the head about 4:30 PM. Mr. Davis was a bachelor, about 45 years old and lived by himself on the planation of Mr. Wiley Fort. He was the son of Mrs. Patience Bunn, of Nahunta Township and besides his mother leaves two half brothers and one half sister. Note: He is buried in the Old Davis Cemetery and his tombstone says James Kirby, born July 27, 1852.
