Wayne County, NC - Obituary of Marvin Lindsay ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DROWNED IN THE NEUSE Marvin Lindsay Falls Off The Steamboat "Goldsboro" The Telegram States That He Was Drowned But Gives No Particulars His Parents Are Prostrated With Grief A telegram received today at 11 o'clock by Mr. Geo. A. Norwood, Jr., president of the Goldsboro Navigation Company, which owns the steamboat "Goldsboro," states that young Marvin Lindsay fell overboard yesterday and was drowned. The telegram was sent from Seven Springs this morning by telephone to La Grange from where it was telegraphed to this city, and it is surmised that the unfortunate occurrence took place below Seven Springs yesterday and no report could be made until the boat reached the Springs. The telegram bearing the sad intelligence does not even say whether or not the body has been recovered, and this lack of information is causing the grief-stricken parents additional suffering. A reporter of the Argus called on Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay, at the Lindsay boarding house in this city, and found them both prostrated with grief. In the absence of any intimation in the ill-fated message as to the recovery of the body they do not know when the remains will arrive and cannot, therefore, say anything regarding the funeral. If found, however, the remains will be brought to Goldsboro and the interment made in Willow Dale Cemetery. The young man was filling the position of fireman on the steamboat "Goldsboro" and this was his first trip. He was 17 years old, and was a fine specimen of physical manhood. The community at large will deeply sympathize with the sorrowing parents in their sudden and heart-rending bereavement. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
