Smithfield Herald, Friday, March 1, 1907
Stephen MITCHELL,
 age 89 years and 11 months died on the 22nd instant.
He was in good health up to the night he died. He was an old veteran.
One by one they are passing over to answer to the roll call in the great
beyond.

Additional Comments:
Stephen MITCHELL, served with the 62nd Regiment, GA Cavalry,
in 1864 changed to the 8th Regiment, GA Cavalry. 
Curtis MITCHELL, Cornelius MITCHELL, Avery MITCHELL, also
served with the 62nd GA Cavalry, and the 8th GA Cavalry.
They all enlisted with the 62nd, GA Cavalry, when it came
thru Wayne co. They all served in Co. H, with the 62nd and 8th.
This regiment served with the army of Northern VA, and was active in 
Petersburg, and around Appomattox.

Co, G, of this regiment saw action at Bentonville.
