E. F. Mr. Murphy was cited for valor in the St. Mihiel offensive. Death occurred in the hospital at Kecoughton, Va. Burial was in Arlington National Cemetary on Thursday, March 7. Born in Sampson county, the son of the late John R. and Ella Baulkman Murphy and a grandson of Cornelius Hugh Murphy, Confederate soldier, the deceased was a descendant of Hugh Murphy, who fought in the battle of Moore's Creek Bridge. Connected with the McMillan, Mulford and Page families of North Carolina, Mr. Murphy's ancestors came to Wilmington from Arron, Scotland, in 1774. For many years the deceased had made his home in Richmond, Va. The deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. Sidney Mebane of Burlington, a brother, Robert Neal Murphy of Richmond, Va.; an aunt, Mrs. Margaret Rich and a cousin, O. M. Rich of Rosehill.
