Wayne County, NC - Mills Family to be Returned to U.S. for Burial ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The five bodies of the Benjamin L. {Lloyd] Mills family will be returned to the United States for burial. The former Wayne County family was killed while sleeping in their home Thursday morning when a B-29 Superfortress crashed at Anderson Air Force Base, on Guam, in an emergency landing. According to Mrs. T.W. Jones, sister of Mrs. Mills, a call from Washington yesterday afternoon assured both the Mills and Stevens families that the bodies will be returned to the United States. Place of burial has not been determined. The funeral will be held at Wayne Memorial Park or Coeburn, Va., where the Mills family cemetery is located. John Mills, father of Lt. Col. Mills, now lives in Coeburn. The Washington report said it would take approximately four weeks for the bodies to arrive at the location of burial after the place has been decided upon. Bodies will arrive in San Francisco by boat and be flown as near as possible to burial site. Listed among the dead other than Col. Mills and his wife [Agnes Stevens] were their three children: Margaret Elaine, nine; Helen Louise, five; and Martha Emma, two. Col. Mills had been stationed on Guam since March, 1953. Mrs. Mills and the children joined him there in July.
