Mrs. Rebecca Slocumb relict of the lamented John C. Slocumb, Esq., passed away in 
death yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock after a prostration of several days. To 
her the dark winged angel brought no fears. Long ago she placed her trust in 
Jesus and she knew that His grace would be sufficient even in the hour of 
dissolution. She was ready for the summons to come up higher. May her influence 
long survive, bringing comfort to the hearts of the bereaved ones, awakening 
deeper love for the God that she served and adding as the years pass by stars to 
her everlasting crown of rejoicing. Mrs. Slocumb was in the 74th year of her age 
and was one of Goldsboro's oldest residents. The funeral services will take place 
from St. Paul Methodist church this afternoon at 4 o'clock.
