Lizzie Viola Chestnutt Thompson, 76, of Grantham, passed away today, January 
10, 1978. She was born to John Joseph and Bettie J. Chestnutt on April 29, 
1903, in the Bevaerdam Community ( Grantham, NC ). She was one of four 
siblings. She married Joseph Preston Thompson of Wayne County. She was the 
mother of four children. Survivied by her are her Husband, Joseph ( Press ) 
Preston Thompson. Her Children, Viola Coleen, of the home, Helen Stevens of 
Grantham, Betty Grantham of Smiths Chapel, and Chester Thompson of Grantham. 
She leaves behind several grandchildren and great grand-children. She always 
had a smile and was a loving mother, grandmother, friend to all.
