Goldsboro Messenger 16 Mar 1885
Departed this life on the night of the 7th inst., at the residence of W. B. 
Whitfield in the village of Seven Springs, Wayne County after an illness of two 
weeks, Mrs. Mary Lee Uzzell, wife of O. K. Uzzell, Esq., and daughter of Col. G. 
W. Stanton, of Wilson County, in the 21st year of her age.

But a few months ago, she came among us a blooming bride. Alas' death claimed 
her as his victim and she has passed that bourne whence no poor traveler 
returns; and although she died away from the home of her childhood, so recently 
given up, there were those who loth to part with one so kind and lovable, did 
all in their power to palliate her sufferings and render her as comfortable as 
circumstances would permit. 

Accomplished and refined, and endowed with a kind heart, generous spirit and 
pleasing manners, she won many friends. It was her constant aim to render happy 
all who enjoyed her society, and none knew her but to love her. Her death has 
cast a gloom over this entire community. We have an assurance that she is where 
"Sickness and sorrow, pain and death are felt and feared no more."

She leaves an affectionate husband and father and a large circle of relatives 
and friends to mourn their irreparable loss. May He who "tempers the wind to the 
shorn lamb" comfort, and sustain, and sanctify this sad affliction to the 
eternal good of all who mourn.
