To all to whom these presents shall come greeting now ye that I Margret 
Cogdell of the State of North Carolina and county of Wayne for and in 
consideration of the love and affection I have to my son Charles Cogdell of 
the state and county aforesaid I give and bequeath and by these presents do 
freely clearly and absolutely give and grant unto the said Charles Cogdell and 
to his heirs and assigns forever one Negro woman named Rose, one Negro boy 
names Sampson, one Negro girl named Cloe now in my possession and so to remain 
during my natural life after my decease to my above said son & to his heirs 
and assigns forever in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal 
the 16th of May & in the fifth year of our Independence and in the year of our 
Lord Christ 1782.
