Carraway February 26, 1894 Among the estate papers of Temperance R. Carraway is the following information: North Carolina Wayne County Superior Court In The Matter of the Petition of J. T. Carraway Et Als To the Court We, the undersigned Commissioners appointed by the Court to partition the lands of Temperance R. Carraway dec'd in Brogden Township, Wayne County, North Carolina, among the petitioners in this cause, having been duly summoned and sworn by the Sheriff of Wayne County, met on the premises, on the [blank] day of March, 1894, and with the aid of the County Surveyor proceeded to partition the said lands among the said petitioners, and according to their respective rights and interests therein, and we submit the following report. Lot No. 1, is appropriated and assigned to the petitioner J. T. Carraway for life, and remainder to his children Florence, Atlas, Ella, Charlie, Algernon, Temperance, Marianna, John T. and Henry in fee. Beginning at a stake on the Goldsboro & Mount Olive public road, corner between lots 1 & 2, and runs with said road towards Goldsboro to a corner in said road between Barnett's land and Lot No. 1, thence N. 57 E. 48 poles to the head of English Branch, marked by two (2) dead pines as pointers; thence down said branch to a light wood stake, corner of lots 1 & 2; thence S. 9 1/2 E. 160 poles to a stake corner of Lots 2 & 1; thence due W. 130 poles to the beginning containing 130 acres and valued at $650.00. Lot No. 2, assigned and appropriated to the petitioner W. P. Carraway for life, and remainder to his children Irma Louisa and Daphne King in fee simple, beginning at the bridge over Marsh Branch, on the Goldsboro & Mount Olive public road, and runs towards Goldsboro with said road to a stake, corner of lots 1 & 2; thence due E. 130 poles to a stake corner lots 1 & 2; thence S. 9 1/2 E. to a stake in Marsh Branch; thence with said branch to the beginning containing 60 acres. Also another piece beginning at a stake in the English Branch, corner lots 1 & 2, and runs S. 9 1/2 E. 160 poles to a stake, corner lots 2 & 3; thence N. 88 E. 214 poles to a stake on the W. side of Carraway Creek, corner of lots 2 & 3; thence down said creek to two (2) pines, Major Lewis' corner; thence S. 52 W. 56 poles to a stake near Carraway Springs, said Lewis' corner; thence S. 45 W. 129 poles to a pine stump, said Lewis' corner; thence N. 11 1/2 W. 161 poles to a big black gum on the N. side of English Branch; thence up said branch to the beginning. Both tracts together valued at $650.00. Lot No. 3, is assigned to the petitioner Mrs. M. C. Parker for life and after her death in fee to her children Carraway, Allie, Tommie and Tempie, bounded and described as follows: Beginning at a stake on the W. side of Carraway Creek, corner lots 2 & 3, and goes up said creek to a big black gum, Samuel C. Carraway's corner; thence S. 57 W. 117 poles to a stake, said Casey's corner; thence S. 48 W. 44 poles to a stake, said Casey's corner; thence N. 21 1/2 W. 32 poles with the private path; thence N. 15 W. 48 poles to Marsh Branch; thence with said branch to a stake, corner lots 2 & 3; thence N. 9 1/2 W. 70 poles to a stake corner of lots 2 & 3; thence N. 88 E. to the beginning containing 170 acres and valued at $836.62, being in excess of each of the other two tracts, in compliance with an order herein of February 26, 1894, in payment in full of the note of Mrs. M.
