Wayne County Spring Term 1857

The Jurors for the State upon their oath present: That William D Cobb late of the 
county of Wayne on the first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand 
eight hundred and fifty nine being Overseer of the part of the Public Road in the 
county aforesaid which lies between Spring Bank Bridge and Carraway Creek it then 
and there became the duty of the said William D Cobb in consequence of his 
appointment of Overseer as aforesaid, to have the Road kept in good and 
sufficient repair, that is to say, twenty feet wide, and sixteen feet clear of 
stumps and runners; to have the Road mile marked and to erect Sign Posts with 
Finger-boards at the forks of the Roads; and to keep good and sufficient Bridges 
whereever it became necessary, with Hand-rails; but the said William D Cobb being 
unmindful of his duty as Overseer aforesaid, negligently did permit the said 
Public Road to become miry and broken and the Bridges upon the said Public Road 
to be rotten and out of reapir and negligently and unlawfully did fail to erect 
Posts with mile marks, and Sign Posts with Finger-boards, so that the said Road, 
on the day and year aforesaid, at and in the county aforesaid was, and yet is, 
unfit for public service to the common nuisance of the good people of the State 
passing and repassing the said Road, contrary to the form of the Statutes in such 
case made and provided and against the peace and dignity of the State.
