Marshall Edward Williams, an Executive in the Brewer Paint and Wallpaper Co., died in a local hospital late Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Williams, who was 65 yrs old, had been seriously ill since he suffered a stroke Monday night. He had been associated with the Brewer Company since its organization in 1927, and was vice president in charge of the local operations of the firm. Mr. Williams came to Rocky Mount from Wayne County in 1907 and for 15 years worked for the Atlantic Coast Line railroad as a locomotive painter. From 1922 to 1927 he was in the paint contracting business himself until he joined the Brewer firm when it was organized. He married Miss Lela Hughes in 1907 and she died in 1939. From that marriage there were 2 sons, Ray Williams of Raleigh and Merle Williams of Rocky Mount; a daughter, Mrs. Ruby W. Best of Rocky Mount, all of whom survive. In 1946 he married Ruth S. Andrews, who survives with two step-sons, Woodrow W. Andrews of Morehead City and William A. Andrews of Rocky Mount; and Mrs. Mildred A. McArthur of Robinsville, a step- daughter; and five grandchildren. He was a member of the Arlington Street Baptist Church. Funeral Services were held from Gay's Funeral Home this afternoon at 5:30 with the Rev. Joe Brooks, pastor of the Edgemont Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Pineview Cemetery. Active pallbearers for the funeral will be E.C. Glover, M.M. Francis, L.J. Henderson, J.V. Futch, Randolf H. Carmichael and J.B. Brewer.
